Polyurethane (PU / PUR)
What is polyurethane (PU / PUR)?
Polyurethane (abbreviation PUR, in common usage also PU for short) is a synthetically produced elastic plastic similar to natural rubber.
AU (polyester urethane) is mostly used in vibration control technology. In addition, there is the waterproof type EU (polyether urethane). PU is a synthetic polymer and is used in two variants for vibration damping:
- cellular soft plastic
- solid soft plastic
PU has better chemical and mechanical resistance compared to NR (natural rubber). Due to the more complex processing – which is also reflected in the price – PU is rarely used as a 1:1 replacement to rubber-to-metal products. Due to their higher load-bearing capacity, combined with a longer service life, PU articles are used where classic rubber elements reach their limits.
The material PU is known under various brand names:
- Vulkollan ®
- Urepan ®
- Elastollan ®
- Adiprene ®
